Last week, I attended a two-day training course in San Antonio for newly elected city officials sponsored by the Texas Municipal League and the Texas Association of Mayors, Councilmembers, and Commissioners, a TML affiliate.

I joined more than 200 newly elected mayors and council members from all over the state to enhance our knowledge of city government through educational sessions that covered collaborative leadership, open government, parliamentary procedure, ethics, economic development, revenue sources, and land use and zoning. I enjoyed visiting with other elected officials and learning how their cities address the opportunities and challenges similar to those we face in Helotes.

I will take everything I learned to make a contribution and difference in our community.
