First elected to the Helotes City Council in 2024, Sabrina McGowan serves Place 4 and is committed to thoughtful decision-making, open communication, responsible management of city resources, and planning for Helotes’ future. With more than 30 years of experience in strategic marketing communications, media relations, and organizational leadership, Sabrina brings an executive-level perspective to her service in local government. Her approach is grounded in listening, understanding the issues, communicating clearly, and working toward practical solutions.
Serving Helotes
Sabrina McGowan’s connection to Helotes began in 1972, when her family moved to the community. After living and working outside of Helotes, she and her husband returned to Helotes in 2020, and live in the home where she grew up.
Sabrina’s professional career has included leadership roles in communications and marketing with organizations including KLRN, CHRISTUS Santa Rosa, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Baron & Budd PC, United Way of Metropolitan Dallas, and an international law firm. She later founded SQM Communications LLC, a strategic communications consulting firm that supported clients across the United States for more than a decade.
Since returning to Helotes, Sabrina has served the Helotes community through volunteer and board roles with organizations including the Historical Society of Helotes, Society of St. Vincent de Paul, and the Helotes Economic Development Corporation.

Why She Serves Her Hometown
Sabrina’s path into local government began with a simple belief: residents deserve to be heard.
Before serving on the City Council, she organized Helotes residents around a proposed development that would have significantly changed the character of Helotes. She researched the proposal, brought neighbors together, helped residents participate in the public process, and saw firsthand what can happen when people make their voices heard.
That experience led her to public service and continues to influence how she approaches her work today.
Sabrina believes effective local government begins with listening, requires accountability and comprehensive planning, and depends on informed decisions made with the community’s long-term interests in mind.
